Youmacon is a fantastic nerdom festival that brings together fans and creators of Japanese anime, video games, internet culture, artwork and comics in one place. For 17 years, the convention has offered interactive games, celebrity guest panels and live musical performances in downtown Detroit. Highlights of the 2021 event include large video and tabletop arcades, a charity masked ball, and a 150,000-square-foot merchant hall, where attendees can purchase cartoons, artwork. art, figurines and other collectibles. Shen Yun

Witness a celebration of ancient China’s rich spiritual heritage this weekend through the art of classical Chinese dance. Bookley’s Nights

Downtown Berkley has hosted a variety of Halloween-themed events this month to celebrate the spooky season. The Bookley Nights festivities continue this weekend. From noon to 3 p.m. on October 30, participating downtown businesses – many of which have adorned their storefronts – will be handing out candy during the Trick or Treat Walk. And from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., locals can attend the Monster Mash street party in Dorothea and Coolidge. The event will include games, crafts, music and other family entertainment. Downtown Berkley;

Los Muertos Day

The Detroit Riverfront will host a celebration of the cultural traditions of the Hispanic holiday Los Muertos Day Saturday. The family-friendly event will feature vendors, live music, children’s storytelling and crafts, a folk ballet dance performance, and refreshments from the Tres Leches N ‘Snacks food truck.
